I stumbled upon this article a few days ago and found it to be an interesting read. It brings up some very interesting points about streaming, vinyl, and compact discs.
Article: You Should Listen To CDs
After reading it, I found that I really don't fit in any of the categories listed in the article. While I had a large collection of CDs at one point, I burned my entire collection to a hard drive (mostly for the same reason the author lost his appreciation for vinyl... it's difficult to move!) and now go to a handful of SITES to find (and download) music. What I've found most interesting about my experience is that I'm now more willing to try something outside of my comfort zone... if I don't like it, I'm merely out the time it took to download and listen. In a way, what I do is the hybrid between streaming and physical CDs, and I can admit that I now have many items in my collection that I enjoy, but never would have spent the money to give it a try otherwise.
Bruce Kulick is slated to play in Las Vegas Thursday evening. The show will be made up mostly of Kulick-era KISS tunes. Here is an interview Bruce did leading up to the show.
A friend of mine is celebrating his birthday today, and for years, I didn't believe it when he told me there was a group by the name of C.C.C.P. Now, the biggest reason for my disbelief was because no matter where I looked, I couldn't find any of their music. Well, all that changed just a couple years ago when I finally found the American Soviets single on a website.

Every time I hear the Jackson 5 version of Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town, I'm reminded of my trip to England in December 1994. I was there (at the now closed RAF Lyneham) 10 days for a court martial. We spent a day and a half doing what we were there to do, then had 8 free days to run around England. It seemed as though everywhere we went, be it the pub, a shop, or even in the hotel lobby, we heard this song... and it seemed as though we heard it every 15 minutes! It seemed rather annoying, but quickly became a joke amongst the good folks I was there with.
Since I went with it yesterday, I thought I'd put up another garage rock classic.
Today, it's Talk Talk by The Music Machine, a band out of Los Angeles. It's a hard-rocking tune that came out in 1967, and is full of teenage angst.
This is a newer tune to me, having heard it on Tom Petty's Buried Treasure. Have to say it's sonically forceful while still being catchy... so catchy that it reached #20 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Here's a performance of the song. Give it a good look, and you'll see that the bass player didn't get the memo.

Hot Smoke And Sassafras is a song by Bubble Puppy that I've loved ever since I can remember, though up until about 10 years ago, I had no idea what the title was or who performed it.
As seen on the Songfacts website... "This song was inspired by an episode of the TV show The Beverly Hillbillies where Granny said, 'Hot smoke and sassafras, Jethro, can't you do anything right?' The group liked the phrase and wrote the song around it as an ode to meditating while smoking marijuana."
A little about the band... they were from Austin, TX and their name was a reference to a game mentioned in Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.
All in all, the song is a great garage rock anthem from the late 60s.

They approached the task with the same entrepreneurial expertise as an advertising agency selling a brand of soap powder to the masses. John & Yoko's product however was PEACE, not soft soap, and they were determined to use any slogan, event and gimmick in order to persuade the World to buy it.
BED PEACE (directed by Yoko & John and filmed by Nic Knowland) is a document of the Montreal events from 26-31 May 1969, and features John & Yoko in conversation with, amongst others, The World Press, satirist Al Capp, activist Dick Gregory, comedian Tommy Smothers, protesters at Berkeley's People's Park, Rabbi Abraham L. Hard to believe this was recorded 37 years ago today!
Recorded at Detroit's Cobo Hall during KISS's Animalize World Tour, this performance was originally aired on MTV. Released on VHS in April 1985, I remember all of us gathering at a friend's house and watching it for the first time. I also remember recording the show to a cassette... both formats we're played quite a bit!
An interesting side note... Bruce Kulick was named a permanent member of the band the same day of this show, replacing Mark St. John (who played on the album, and did maybe a show and a half's worth of performances with the band).

I saw my first concert back on November 25, 1987... KISS was the headliner, and White Lion was the opening act. The show was at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, OK. While I have a bootleg of that KISS performance, the sound quality isn't very good.
Fortunately, I was able to get good-sounding audience recordings for both bands from the shows that happened 6 nights later in St. Paul, MN. Those shows are presented here.
