CDs Making A Comeback?

I stumbled upon this article a few days ago and found it to be an interesting read.  It brings up some very interesting points about streaming, vinyl, and compact discs.

Article: You Should Listen To CDs

After reading it, I found that I really don't fit in any of the categories listed in the article.  While I had a large collection of CDs at one point, I burned my entire collection to a hard drive (mostly for the same reason the author lost his appreciation for vinyl...  it's difficult to move!) and now go to a handful of SITES to find (and download) music.  What I've found most interesting about my experience is that I'm now more willing to try something outside of my comfort zone...  if I don't like it, I'm merely out the time it took to download and listen.  In a way, what I do is the hybrid between streaming and physical CDs, and I can admit that I now have many items in my collection that I enjoy, but never would have spent the money to give it a try otherwise.

C.C.C.P.

A friend of mine is celebrating his birthday today, and for years, I didn't believe it when he told me there was a group by the name of C.C.C.P.  Now, the biggest reason for my disbelief was because no matter where I looked, I couldn't find any of their music.  Well, all that changed just a couple years ago when I finally found the American Soviets single on a website.

Here is that single...  American Soviets:

If this interests you and you'd like to hear more of their music, you can check them out HERE.  Not only is the music available for download at Myzuka, but you can also listen to it without downloading!

Happy Birthday, Lemmy

Today we celebrate what would have been the 76th birthday of one Ian Fraser Kilmister.  In doing so, I'm sharing the 4 most essential Motörhead albums.

Enjoy!

And if you're wanting to hear Lemmy doing some good old Rockabilly, and missed the post about a month ago, check it out HERE.

A Merry Christmas to all!  See you again in a few days!

Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town

Every time I hear the Jackson 5 version of Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town, I'm reminded of my trip to England in December 1994.  I was there (at the now closed RAF Lyneham) 10 days for a court martial.  We spent a day and a half doing what we were there to do, then had 8 free days to run around England.  It seemed as though everywhere we went, be it the pub, a shop, or even in the hotel lobby, we heard this song...  and it seemed as though we heard it every 15 minutes!  It seemed rather annoying, but quickly became a joke amongst the good folks I was there with.

I thought I'd share this one because it has become one of my favorites, and I get to tell the story behind it again!

Enjoy!

Happy Birthday, Frank

Today, we celebrate what would have been the 81st birthday of the greatest musical mind of my lifetime...  Frank Zappa.

As a self-taught composer and performer, Zappa had diverse musical influences that led him to create music that was often difficult to categorize.  He was a highly productive and prolific artist with a controversial critical standing.  Supporters of his music admired its compositional complexity while critics found it lacking emotional depth.  He had greater commercial success outside the United States, particularly in Europe.  He remains a major influence on musicians and composers.  His honors include his 1995 induction to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and the 1997 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (both posthumously awarded).

I've been a fan for about 35 years now (after listening to a few albums my Dad had), and thought I'd offer up and album that I really didn't appreciate until recently...  1975's One Size Fits All (an album I heard performed in its entirety by his son Dweezil back in 2015).  I chose this album as I thought it would be an interesting jumping-off point for those not familiar with Zappa's work.  I feel the musicianship is phenomenal (a staple of Zappa's bands) and the music itself is diverse enough to offer a little something for everyone.

The Beatles Christmas Records

The album of the week is a Beatles collection...  The Christmas Records.

From 1963 - 1969, The Beatles sent out Christmas records to fan club members.  The records were novelty items, featuring John, Paul, George & Ringo goofing off and offering their fans Christmas messages.  This 2017 compilation collects them all in one convenient package!
