I had to laugh, because this is the very episode that led me to becoming a fan of the Stormtroopers Of Death (S.O.D.). I hadn't heard of them, but when the scene at the high school came on and the kids being interviewed said that's what they were listening to, I thought this is something I need to check out.
Living in southwest Oklahoma at the time (and in high school), we usually got out of town a couple times a month, and while I can't remember exactly where we went that weekend (would have been either Lawton, OK or Wichita Falls, TX), I was able to find S.O.D.'s Speak English Or Die cassette at the mall. Of course, I snapped it up as quick as I could. Upon the return trip home, the cassette went into the Walkman, and let's just say I was blown away by what I heard (roughly 23 minutes of sonic fury)!
Now that I've gotten that story out... I always found it funny that a major network decided to dedicate a TV show that was trying to warn parents of the great evil of heavy metal music that their children were listening to, actually sent me in the direction of a band (that at the time) I hadn't heard of, and an album that I still enjoy regularly.
And while I'm at it (and since she's also featured in the story), I'd like to send a special FUCK YOU out to Al & Tipper Gore, who were too self-absorbed to do any actual parenting themselves, so they decided the government needed to step in and do it for everybody (look up the P.M.R.C. if I've confused you in any way).
Here it is... the infamous 20/20 Heavy Metal episode!
